About the Founder’s:

Mr. Gurmeet Kochar, 29 years is the Founder and CEO of spicebox.in. Before Starting up at the age of 20years, Gurmeet was working at Edelweiss Capital as an Investment Banker, after which he moved to Standard Chartered. At Standard Chartered he got the idea to startup a food tech commerce business.

One of his friend offered Gurmeet his whole month’s salary for Home cooked food, at this time Gurmeet realised the importance of home cooked food.
He also thought of people migrating from one city to other for Job and they don’t have time to cook food on their own. So tiffin service of home cooked food found a best match for him.

Initially there were many challenges when they started in 2011. They wanted to keep the cost reasonable and at the same provide quality food to the customers. Initially Gurmeet used to deliver food in his Seden car, almost 55 deliveries a day.

This went on till first 6 months, which in turn helped him to learn from consumers by interacting with them on a one to one basis.
After which delivery was given in the hands of Mumbai Dabbawala’s.

In the word of Mr. Gurmeet:

“I am sure that I want to do this for the rest of my life. I want to grow at a steady rate, so I have paid a lot of importance to bootstrapping. When your own personal DNA is in the in the game, you see things in a different light.
I believe that first-time entrepreneurs need to bootstrap their way and understand unit economics; break-even analysis; and how they will be able to sustain before they seek external investment,”
