About the Founder’s:

Mr. Gurmeet Kochar, 29 years is the Founder and CEO of spicebox.in. Before Starting up at the age of 20years, Gurmeet was working at Edelweiss Capital as an Investment Banker, after which he moved to Standard Chartered. At Standard Chartered he got the idea to startup a food tech commerce business.

One of his friend offered Gurmeet his whole month’s salary for Home cooked food, at this time Gurmeet realised the importance of home cooked food.
He also thought of people migrating from one city to other for Job and they don’t have time to cook food on their own. So tiffin service of home cooked food found a best match for him.

Initially there were many challenges when they started in 2011. They wanted to keep the cost reasonable and at the same provide quality food to the customers. Initially Gurmeet used to deliver food in his Seden car, almost 55 deliveries a day.

This went on till first 6 months, which in turn helped him to learn from consumers by interacting with them on a one to one basis.
After which delivery was given in the hands of Mumbai Dabbawala’s.

In the word of Mr. Gurmeet:

“I am sure that I want to do this for the rest of my life. I want to grow at a steady rate, so I have paid a lot of importance to bootstrapping. When your own personal DNA is in the in the game, you see things in a different light.
I believe that first-time entrepreneurs need to bootstrap their way and understand unit economics; break-even analysis; and how they will be able to sustain before they seek external investment,”

Expansion:
By December of 2016 Spicebox intends to expand in other cities too, including Pune and Bengaluru.
They also ventured with following, on demand food space and food tech start-ups:
·         Oye Kidden
·         The Bohri Kitchen

·         Inner Chef
·         Fresh Menu

LIMO bus aggregator app

Hey Guys, if you are from Mumbai, today I am going to talk with you about an app that can make your daily commute from home to office and vice versa really comfortable, stress-free and smart.
No, I am not going to talk about Ola’s and Uber’s (taxi aggregators) but about a bus Aggregator.

So without further ado let’s get started

I am talking about “LIMO” app which is currently only available on Android OS. (Coming soon on iOS too)

Link to download the app is here: Limo

So what basically this app does is:

Limo offers door to door air conditioned shuttle bus service in Mumbai, which can make your daily commute from home to office and back home comfortable and sweat free (bone for this really hot summers).

Users are just required to input their Home address and Office address on Limo mobile app or website after which find your bus running on the same route. And viola you can book these buses for your daily, weekly or monthly commutes. They are also having flexible timing to suit your commute needs.

Features of the app:
·         Limo is everywhere
·         Book your rides daily, weekly or monthly
·         Flexible timings to fit your needs
·         Ride to work like a boss!
·         Don’t see your bus? Demand it!
·         You build the network

Above all features are explained in the below mentioned image:

About the Company:

“LIMO”, the brand developed by its parent company named “Raftaar Technologies Private Ltd”. Earlier it was named as “rbus”. The company was founded in 2014 and is based in Mumbai, India.
The company had seed funded by Investors from “India Quotient” founder “Anupam Mittal” and others last year in April. They raised this fund for expansion of its operations and enhancing its technology. Currently they have neck to neck competition from another Bus aggregator named “Cityflo”. Also “ola Shuttle” comes in close competition for them.

Recently Limo raised $1million, after they got funding for “Rainmaker Ventures”. This was the first investment by the venture, after their launch in December 2015. And it is second investment for “Limo” which was formally known as “rbus”.

“Rainmaker Ventures” was set up in December 2015 by “Mr. Sudhir Menon”, Chairman and Managing Director at “Dorf Ketel Chemicals India Pvt Ltd” and “Mr Atul hedge” CEO of “Ignitee Digital” (a leading digital marketing firm)

Founders of “LIMO”:
·         Mr. Siddharth Sharma (Chief Executive Officer)
·         Mr. Vivek Choksi (Chief Operating Officer)
·         Mr. Anshul Khandelwal (Chief Technology Officer)

After raising $1 million from “Rainmaker Ventures” one of its co-founder, Mr. Siddharth told something about their future plans for the brand “LIMO” which is as follows:

In the words of Mr. Siddharth:
“We work with everyone from individuals and communities to large corporates, corporate parks, and even governments, and have a number of conversations ongoing in this regard and expect to be very busy rolling out and scaling these networks. Transit has traditionally suffered from very poor margins, but we believe new technology and techniques can usher a paradigm shift in this space. So we also expect to be working on some exciting innovations in this space. As we are a platform, we expect that we can scale very rapidly from here. Based on our current pipeline, we should be set for more than 20x growth in the next fiscal”.

Let’s come to the pros and cons of the App or website:

Pros:
·         You get hassle free Air conditioned ride from your Home to office and vice versa

·         You can also pay for your friend through the “book rides” tap in the app or website.

Cons:
·         Cash payments are not allowed (you need to pay via debit, credit and net banking, 15 minutes prior to start of your journey)

·         You can’t cancel your ride after 1 hour of booking your ride.

·         Even if you cancel your ride within 1 hour prior to start of your journey they will charge you cancellation fee of Rs 5/- and the remaining amount will be in your LIMO wallet which can be used for your next booking. (So basically you can’t refund your money and take it in your bank account).

Ola focusing more on its core Business

India's biggest taxi aggregator recently had started its pilot project of delivering food and Grocery at the time when there are low booking calls as especially between 1 to 4 pm in afternoon. They actually named this service as "Ola Cafe". This service was going on in Bangalore region only for testing purpose.

But now after testing the market they found its not viable and so they decided to shut it off and concentrate more on its core business model that is taxi service. They currently are competing neck to neck with Uber. Currently they are focusing big on this business by adding more funds from different investors and expanding its service to small towns and city with its Bus shuttle category too.

Currently Ola has a 15-20% lead on Uber in its taxi services and one of the Ola investor say, that needs to be maintained, so instead of entering many categories and come second or third become leader by focusing on one category and grow it consistently.

Many employees from Ola cafe and Ola Store are been layed off due to the closure of these two business they are going through restructuring process. Where many form Ola cafe and Ola Store are also been kept.

Ola will be channelizing more of its resources in its taxi business in eight major cities where they are in direct competition with Uber Taxi services. They will majorly focus on low cost taxi services, ride sharing services, Auto rickshaw services and will be doing required investment in bus shuttle services. This will cover wide commuter segment in the cities by Ola.

Bhavish Aggarwal, CEO of Ola, said,

“Our mission is to build mobility for a billion people.“

Another investor in Ola said that Ola will focus more on its taxi business by doing more investment in all categories but especially on low cost taxi services. Recently the company had launched Ola Micro which is 20% cheaper than Ola mini. in following cities like : Mumbai, Delhi and bengalore. Which gives direct completion to Uber’s low cost service “Uber Go”?

Ola's marketing head Anand Subramanian said that its 90% of revenue comes from Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Jaipur, Pune and Kolkata.

Uber also had made critical changes in its portfolio by shutting its Auto rickshaw service category this year and also replacing its Premium taxi services that is Uber black to SUV and XL categories in India.

They also shut down its wifi enables cab services in two cities. Uber's investors include Bennett, Coleman and Company Limited. Due to tough competition between Uber and Ola and to get market leadership both are pumping more and more funds in customer acquisition.
